NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE

Neal Ramsay to perform with Nashville Symphony


On July 4, artist saxophone soloist Neal Ramsay will be performing his arrangement of popular American saxophone pieces with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra on their annual July Fourth concert.

Among the pieces Neal includes in his recent repertoire of saxophone solos with band are:

  • Jerry Bilik's Blue Rhapsody
  • Sammy Nestico's Persuasion
  • Neal's own arrangement of a medley of saxophone classics entitled Rags to Rondos (A real crowd pleaser!), which includes Wiedoeft's Saxophobia, Jimmy Dorsey's Contrasts and Beebe, Hagen's Harlem Nocturne, and Brubeck's Rondo a la Turk.
  • and for an encore his own arrangement of Flight of the Bumble Bee.

Australasian Clarinet and Saxophone Conference


The 1997 Australasian Clarinet & Saxophone Conference will be held in Brisbane at the Queensland Conservatorium, Southbank Parklands July 17-20, 1997.

Floyd Williams, conference director notes: "The Conference Programme will bring together many of Australia's leading performers on clarinet and saxophone, combined with prominent international artists. The concerts will cover aspects of both instruments ranging from jazz to the latest contemporary music."

Hite clarinet and saxophone mouthpieces will be available at the convention through our Australian distributor, WOODWIND & BRASS MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS (Sydney). Hite mouthpieces will be included among the prizes in the conference drawing.

LOS ANGELES

New jazz curriculum at U.C.L.A.


Beginning the Fall 1997 term, U.C.L.A. will offer a new jazz curriculum. The woodwind faculty will include Gary Gray, who has already been teaching clarinet and saxophone at the university. Due to the new program and the resulting increase in registration, Gary Foster has been invited to join the staff as an artist teacher of woodwinds (clarinet, sax and flute.) Well known for his many recordings and work in the Hollywood/L.A. area, Foster played the prominent soprano saxophone solos in the new movie Father's Day (Robin Williams, Billy Crystal).
